The series is written primarily for entertainment as fast paced adventure novels but also with the serious intent of bringing history a prticulary lesser know Asian History into the readers' imagination as pertinent to today. They are written from actual events but also from my own interpretations of those based on varied experiences. Basically it is good fighting against evil to control an institution many of us would wish for in these troubled times to regulate a nation's affairs. The choice of an ancient monastery and sect as the bedrock of the series is deliberately intended to convey the extremes of the modern fast moving industrial world with the past, the two inexplicably bound together.
I remain fascinated by the ability of the Chinese under Admiral Zheng He to have discovered much of today's world long before it was officially recognised. I devised the premise of the hidden priceless artefacts as a substitute for the fact he did not chose to claim these lands for his country as was the want of later explorers. The History Detective series seeks to provide an entertaining and thought provoking way of recording their real contribution to the modern world.
Finally the notion that 'man needs to learn from history or be condemned to repeating it' can be seen as the main theme of the book. Aside from that my only intent is to entertain share many of my own experiences and love of history.
